Stewart Alexander & Company, Inc.
Shipbrokers and Chartering Agents, represents charterers of many commodities and products, grain, sugar and other agricultural products, fertilizers, cement and gypsum, coal and petcoke, metals and ore, recyclables, lumber and forest products; the full range of dry bulk commodities. We get the right ship for the job, whether standard or specialized, such as self-load/discharge bulkcarriers, and are able to arrange trial shipments and containerized cargo through our sister company, Stalco Forwarding Services, Inc., to provide full service. Customers vary from small traders up to the largest multinational, publicly traded companies doing business worldwide. The brokers are experienced in the technical details of the commodities, and current and projected freight rates, obtaining the best rates and terms for our charterers. Our team is able to rate business for customers prior to the sale, and the trader can decide whether to short the freight or fix forward. We arrange single spot voyages, timecharters (including management), and contracts of affreightment, working with reliable owners and operators world-wide. A highly experienced post-fixture department handles notices, coordination of cargo deliveries, charter party preparation and operational follow-up, as well as prompt finalization of all voyages for our clients. On-line banking is done through CHASELINK of Chase Manhattan Bank, providing rapid freight money transfers and close control of our clients’ funds. Clients have access to operational information (vessel and freight tracking) via password protected internet access. Established in 1983, the company is a member of the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), the Association of Ship Brokers and Agents (USA), Inc. (ASBA), and the United States Chamber of Commerce. We conduct business in New York with many different owners, brokers and trading houses; in London on the Baltic Exchange through our correspondent brokers; and in the other shipping capitals throughout Latin America, Europe and Asia with our overseas principals and correspondents.
