History of Stewart Alexander & Company, Inc. and its Affiliates

Stewert Alexander & Company Inc. was formed in April 1983 by William D. Stewart and Van Alexander, formerly the chartering manager & assistant chartering manager of Chester, Blackbum & Roder, Inc., with Richard G. Sembler, formerly the operations manager of the shipping lines operated by Chester, Blackbum & Roder as junior partner

From the beginning Stewart Alexander & Company Inc. has represented both owners and charterers, with a number of owners in the United States, Latin America and Europe. Over the years, the Company expanded its operations into Asia. To meet the shipping needs and requirements of many of these clients, both large and small, Stewart Alexander & Company Inc. became a licensed freight forwarder with the Federal Maritime Commission(FMC #3507)in 1991.We are now one of the largest independent brokers in the United States, providing worldwide market coverage for our clients.

Our affiliates includes:

Mathieson International Ltd., was formed in 1984 to operate timecharters and manage other business for regular chartering clients. In 2004, Ocean Transport & Logistics, LLC,was formed to replace Mathieson and perform additional services such as managing complex industrial projects for regular clients.

Stalco Forwarding Services, Inc., was formed in 1993 to take over the Federal Maritime Commission forwarding license of Stewart Alexander & Company Inc., and to provide a full range of shipping services to the regular chartering clients of Stewart Alexander & Company, Inc.
